TO THE BOY WHO LIVED AND LOVED

This website is devoted to the memory of Johnny MacDougall, my wonderful nine-year-old boy who tragically died of an unknown congenital condition, Arterio-Venous Malformation AVM discovered deep within his brain.   The catastrophic episode was sudden and inoperable.  He died on January 11, 2015.  Johnny was special, and he enjoyed life, live music, science, baseball, WWII history, the water, boating, camping, scouting, the Manatee Bay Elementary School, his teachers, classmates and friends.  He loved his cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, the Sloan family, Kristin, his dad, his brother and most especially his mom.  We all miss his smile, his thirst for knowledge, his tender and sweet disposition and his worldwide outlook.  Johnny lived and loved large during his nine years and we will never forget him.  This website is all about keeping his contagious spirit and zest for life alive in the hope that the joy he brought us can be spread to others.

Johnny was cremated and most of his ashes were scattered at sea on January 17, 2015 off the coast of Fort Lauderdale beach.  A special thank you to the Brantmeyer family for generously donating the motor yacht Caprice for the touching service and to Eileene and Tod Sloan for opening up their home in hosting a gathering for many out of town guests.  David Sloan delivered The Eulogy with reverence.  He too knew Johnny and thought of him as ahead of his time. All of this was orchestrated by my girlfriend, Kristin Sloan who had a profound and positive impact on Johnny's life.  These wonderful people loved him and he was lucky to know them. Many friends were able to attend but many could not.  We hope that you know we felt the love and appreciate your support.

Tommy and I embarked on a trip to scatter a pinch of Johnny's ashes at the 30 baseball stadiums.  Friends, family and strangers alike helped us with generous donations to fund this trip.  Thank you all for your love and generosity.  This story was shared in newspapers, on TV, in a magazine and on radio too.  Here is a link: MEDIA
